Can I carry cycles and motorcycles on the back of my motorhome |
It is permitted to carry loads, including bicycles or motorcycles, at the rear of vehicles, so long as the load does not exceed 10% of the length of the vehicle (15% in the case of indivisible items). Any load at the rear must be indicated by a panel with diagonal red and white stripes. This carrying device and the load that is carried must not restrict the visibility of the lights, signals or the number plate.In the case of car and caravan, the carrying device must not rest on the towbar. Portugal – It is not permitted to carry cycles on the rear of a car. On motorhomes cycles may be carried provided that they do not extend more than 45cm to the rear or more than the width of the vehicle. They may not be more than 4m from the ground. You should attach to any cycles and any other item attached at the rear of your vehicle or outfit a red and white striped hazard sign (as sold by caravan dealers). Anything carried must not obscure lights or number plates. Failure to adhere to any of the above regulations may result in a fine. |
